Ancient Trivia Fun –- Create a “question of the day” using interesting facts about Ancient Egypt.
Decorative Doors – Challenge teachers to decorate their classroom doors using the Pyramid of Books theme. Ask students to vote for their favourites.
Golden Ticket Contest – Create some “golden tickets” then hide in classrooms under random chairs. During morning announcements have students check under their chairs to see if they won. Winners can redeem their tickets for a prize.
Hieroglyphic High Jinks – Ask students to use hieroglyphs (symbols or pictograms) to describe a scene from their favourite book. Challenge other students to guess the titles of the various entries.
Unwrap a Great Book Contest – Separately wrap 2 or 3 books (various reading levels) in newsprint then wrap in gauze to “mummify”. Give gauze antique look by soaking in water with tea bag – let dry before wrapping. Have students guess the number of pages in each book.
Word Wrap – Select a themed word then hold a contest to see who can use the letters to create the most words. Eg. We were able to form 53 words from the word “pyramid”. See Answer Key to review our list.
