Creating a Fun Atmosphere!

Try some of these fun ideas to create an atmosphere that’s full of excitement! Ask volunteers and creative students to lend their talents.

Ancient Accents – Scatter borrowed props throughout your Book Fair area and use to theme table displays. Baskets, plastic urns and vases, old draperies, gold and silver holiday decorations, costume jewelry, etc.

Anubis Display – Use papier maché to construct a jackal in lying position. Decorate as desired. Place Anubis on top of large painted box. Use black marker to decorate box with hieroglyphs.

Bulletin Board – Ask some artistic students to design and decorate a themed bulletin board, located near the school entrance or main office.

Fit for a Pharaoh/Queen – Brighten up an old chair or stool with a coat of metallic paint. Ask parents if anyone has an old piece they don’t want or pick one up from a garage sale or second-hand store. Have volunteer Book Talkers present from this seat of honour.

Hieroglyphic Art – Enlarge patterns provided using photocopier then copy or trace on to construction paper, poster board, cardboard or fabric. Use to decorate Fair.

Make a Mummy – Use newspapers and scrap material to form a life-size mummy then cover with gauze or strips of cloth. Position in a chair at your Family Event.

Pattern Suggestions – Enlarge patterns provided using photocopier and use to decorate Fair.

Pyramid of Books – Hand out a construction paper “brick” to each student visiting the Fair to write their name on. Show your students’ love of books by building a great pyramid of bricks on a wall in your Book Fair area.

Pyramid Pointers – Help point the way to excitement by displaying construction paper triangles (pyramids) along hallways leading to your Fair.
