CANDLE HOLDER

Create a cheerful light using fancy coloured paper, a sweet smelling votive candle and an old jelly jar. It's just the thing to brighten up a rainy day.

MATERIALS:

  • Old jelly jar or glass
  • Your favourite colored tissue paper
  • Small paintbrush
  • Decoupage medium or glue (available at craft or hardware stores)
  • Crafty extras to decorate glass
  • Votive candle, scented or unscented

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Clean out the jar really well and dry it.
  2. Cut or tear the tissue paper into small pieces or shapes — be creative!
  3. Use the paintbrush to apply the decoupage medium to the outside of the glass, and then start putting on your tissue paper, using the brush again to smooth out any wrinkles. *Remember not to go over the edge of your glass with the tissue paper, and only apply paper to the outside of the glass.
  4. When you're finished decorating, allow your candleholder to dry, then cover the entire jar with one more coat of decoupage medium.
Use your decorations and your imagination to finish it off. Once everything is dry, put in your candle to read by colourful candlelight, or set in your window to cast a warm glow. These make great gifts too!!
