CHINESE LANTERN

String a bunch of these festive paper lanterns from your ceiling and create your own Chinese Palace!

MATERIALS:

  • Different coloured paper (construction paper or gift wrapping-paper)
  • Scissors
  • Glue, tape or a stapler
  • Glitter, beads (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Fold a rectangular piece of paper in half, making a long, thin rectangle.
  2. Cut about a 4-inch piece of thread. Tie one end around a bead.
  3. Make about 12 (or more) cuts along the fold line, but don’t cut all the way to the edge of the paper.
  4. Unfold the paper and glue the edges of the paper together.
  5. Cut a strip of paper for the handle (about 6 inches long) then glue it to the top of your lantern.
  6. Now your lantern is ready to be decorated. Use glitter, beads, feathers or paint to create your own beautiful Chinese pattern!
