 Amy von Heyking lives in Leduc, Alberta. Her parents were immigrants to Canada. "My mother in particular always shared stories about our family's history. I think this is probably the reason for my interest in history, and my commitment to making the teaching of history engaging, exciting and meaningful for children." She is a professor in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where she conducts teacher workshops on the use of literature to teach social studies.
