Jan Andrews is the author of several children's books. A natural storyteller, she has been shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award, Ruth Schwartz Award, Canada Council Children's Literature Prize and Manitoba Young Readers' Choice Award. Her book Very Last First Time was selected as an American Library Association Notable Book.
Jan has a passion for the outdoors. If you can't find her at her desk, you might find her rock climbing, canoeing, cross-country skiing or hiking. But her love of the outdoors hasn't stopped her from creating touching stories of characters who find strength through struggle, and in the process, learn more about themselves, just as Sophie Loveridge did in Winter of Peril.
For Jan, writing the story of Sophie was a particular pleasure because it enabled her to go back to her English roots. "I always thought I would never have become a writer if I had not come to Canada soon after finishing university," she says. "And yet, here I am, finding such a delight in relinking to a part of history that is more especially mine."
