Karleen Bradford has written several books for children. Her topics include historical fiction (The Nine Days Queen), as well as fantasy (The Other Elizabeth) and non-fiction (Animal Heroes). Her many awards include the CLA Young Adult Canadian Book Award and an ALA Best Book citation. She has also been shortlisted for the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction, the Manitoba Young Readers’ Choice Award and the Silver Birch Award.
When Karleen was writing With Nothing But Our Courage, she travelled through New York State, along Lake Champlain and up into Québec, along the route Mary MacDonald and her family would have taken.
