Grave Danger
by Gisela Tobien Sherman

Cassie has just turned sixteen, and strange, disquieting things have started to happen: she is exhausted all the time, no matter how much she sleeps; she has been seen around town late at night, dancing wildly — she is even accused of deserting her baby-sitting charges to go partying . . . yet Cassie swears she stayed with the children. Is there a mysterious double ruining her reputation and taking over her life?

Cassie thinks she has the answer when one day she sees a portrait of Catherine Denning, an ancestor who looked just like her. Is Cassie being haunted by Catherine's ghost? She discovers that other girls in the family have died shortly after turning sixteen . . . and realizes that the ghost drove them to their deaths.

Cassie is running out of time — unless she can lay Catherine to rest, the ghost will claim her life as well as the life of her younger sister. Can Cassie overcome this awesome power from beyond the grave, or is history destined to tragically repeat itself?

Excerpt from GRAVE DANGER
by Gisela Tobien Sherman

Cassie clutched the car door armrest hard to keep from screaming. In an instant, the hazy figure disappeared. The window was left blank and ominous.

Dorian began to talk about the movie. Had she imagined the girl? Had it been merely a trick of moonlight and the shadows of quivering tree branches? The queasy, panicky ache in her stomach said no. She turned to Dorian to ask him to take her back home, then hesitated. What would she day? Hey Dorian, I think I saw some dead girl from an old painting standing at the window. Or, gee Dorian, I just remembered I feel too sick to go out. She'd look like an idiot.

He smiled at her. That wonderful smile. Those blue eyes. It's not fair, she thought. This was supposed to be my dream evening.

No! She decided. I'm not ruining this date because of some shadows in a dark window. I'll check it later when I get home and find out it was the reflection of the moon or a hall light or something. Maybe Mom got tired of the portrait falling down all the time, and stuck it upstairs, right by that window. I have a date with Dorian and I'm going to enjoy it.
